‘It’s TOTALLY me!’ said Maeve. She rushed to grab her costume as the rest of the class took to the air in their flowing black capes. The pointy hats and broomsticks made them look pretty terrifying! ‘Come on, Theo!’

Theo put on his hat and cloak.

‘Here we go!’ he said and let out his best witchy cackle. ‘Mwahahahahahaaaaa! Fly my pretty, FLY!’

Wanda looked at him nervously at first, and Theo knew she was remembering Maeve’s spooky story from the midnight feast. But after he pulled some funny faces and did his wiggly walk to make her laugh, she got into the spirit and zoomed around the castle, whizzing past the battlements and over the playing fields.

Then Theo had an idea. He checked to see if Dina Drake was watching. She was facing the other way for a second, so he tapped Wanda on the shoulder to steer her over to his left, towards the Forbidden Tower. Maybe he would be able to peek in the high window. Maybe even catch a glimpse of the terrifying headless ghost dragon?

As he flew past, he could feel Wanda beginning to shake with nerves. He patted her side to calm her.

‘It’s okay, Wanda. We’re safe …’ he whispered.

But as they glided around the corner, he saw a chilling sight – a dragon silhouetted against the sun. Wanda screeched and stopped, hovering just metres away.

‘Theo?’ said a familiar voice. ‘I guess we had the same idea!’

Maeve and Shimmer were hovering in the air near the Forbidden Tower. Theo laughed in relief and held his chest, then rubbed Wanda’s hide to calm her down.
